Description
A long time ago, or so it seems, our Managing Director David
Bremner noticed that there weren't any internet sites dedicated
to the selling of alcohol and more especially whisky. So in
early 1998, armed with a second hand computer and the grand
sum of £500, set up Whiskynet in a spare room of his
house.
As the first kid on the block, David had to negotiate uncharted
waters and reams of red tape, and in the process achieved
several milestones. Whiskynet became the first internet company
in the UK to be granted a licence to sell alcohol, and David's
house officially became the first online off licence in the
UK and maybe the world, much to the amusement and bemusement
of his neighbours.
Of course things have moved on a pace since those early days,
with real offices, warehouse storage and trading partners,
and customers, around the world. However, Whiskynet remains
one of the few online drinks retailers to hold an off-sales
license, allowing sales to be made direct to the public, online,
legally.
What does the future hold? Well, Bibacity is the natural
progression of their early successes, and with divergence
into other spirits we now supply major trade customers throughout
the UK, and hold agencies for some notable brands such as
The Rotary Malt - a fundraising whisky for Rotary International
which is helping to eradicate polio worldwide, Lemercier Abisinthe
- arguably the finest absinth available, as well as distributorships
for other brands.
Of course the ethos hasn't changed, they're a small, dedicated,
non VC funded team, and as such they'll always do their utmost
to provide an excellent service to customers large or small.
